The Chairman, House Committee on Healthcare Services, Dr. Yusuf Tanko says the best Cancer preventive strategy is early education and sensitization.


Dr. Tanko stated this during a meeting with the delegation of an International Non-governmental organization, OCI Foundation led by it's President, Professor Chris Ifediora at the National Assembly.

He explained that such preventive measures would not only save money, but, encourage early detection and possible treatment.


Dr. Tanko also gave an assurance that the Committee would collaborate with the NGO in ensuring that a bill was sponsored on entrenching Cancer preventive teachings in all Secondary schools in the Country.


Earlier, the President of the NGO, Professor Ifediora said the Organization had engaged the Anambra State Government and First Ladies, but needed the commitment of the Legislative Arm of Government to ensure Cancer preventive knowledge were introduced at early stages of young people.

Professor Ifediora pointed out that the Organization was already collaborating with the NYSC, Nigeria Cancer Society, and First Ladies Against Cancer on the sensitization.

The delegation also visited Senator Ifeanyi Uba, who commanded the OCI Foundation on its Cancer sensitization efforts and emphasized the need to effectively engage the National Assembly for legal backing.

 

A civil society group, Drums Majors For Peace in collaboration with Earthspring International and BALSDA has concluded arrangements to host thought-leaders, politicians, law enforcement agencies, civil society organisations, Non Governmental Organisations, faith-based organisations (FBOs), the media and other stakeholders in social justice system in a summit in Abuja. 


Drums Majors For Peace while noting that time has come for everyone to stand up and contribute a part in changing the social justice narrative in Nigeria and the world at large, it also emphasised that the summit seeks to highlight some of the most critical social justice issues in the country. 


The stakeholders summit on social justice scheduled to take place on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Ladi Kwali Hall of Sheraton Hotel Abuja coincides with the 2022 World Day of Social Justice. 

In a release on Wednesday, Drums Majors For Peace said the stakeholders summit seeks to promote advocacy for culture of human rights tolerance and responsible freedom in the society. 


It was also galvanize support for the promotion of sustainable development goals (SDGs) especially goal 16 which speaks to the need to promote Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. 


The organisers also noted that it will mobilise stakeholders for policy formation that addresses various issues of inequality, poverty, human right abuses, professionalism and adherence to rule of law and gender balancing in governance, amongst others.

Drum Majors for Peace, an advocacy organization with the focal aim of fostering peace and encouraging inclusivity using entertainment as a medium will also use the opportunity of the summit to sensitise the general public on the need to speak up and speak out against injustices and create platforms for the continuous social engagement with the Social Justice gate-keepers.


The group while noting that this summit will complement the efforts of Government and other relevant agencies in promoting social justice reiterated its commitment to achieving its core objectives centered on the enhancement of peace culture, tolerance and social cohesion across the country and beyond.


Deserving individuals and organisations who have contributed immensely to the enhancement of social justice in the country will also be rewarded with award presentations.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has been honoured and decorated with the prestigious National Peace Award of Most Peaceful Governor in Nigeria by Messengers of Peace Foundation. amidst cheers and fanfare. 


The governor was decorated on Wednesday, January 26 at the Government House Enugu by the National Peace Award Committee headed by the President of the Foundation, Dr. Suleiman Adejoh to a dinner at Government House Enugu.


He was also honoured with appointment as one of the Patrons of Messengers of Peace 

Dedicating the award to God, the governor expressed gratitude to the leadership of Messengers of Peace Foundation for finding him worthy of the honour. 


He said, “If there is a commodity in the market called peace, nations are prepared to buy it at all cost. Because we entrusted Enugu State to the hands of God, we have seen God’s hands in affairs of the state. I dedicate this award to the Almighty God. I also want to say a very big thank you to you all for this honour”.


He said peace is a vital ingredient to bring about national development, adding that no effort should be spared at this time in pursuit of peace. 

He noted that the founding father of the country in their wisdom opted to live together as one indivisible entity, urging all Nigerians to irrespective of their religious beliefs and ethnic alignment embrace love and humanity to foster nation building. 


Enugu has been identified as one of the most peaceful states in the country that has not recorded any incident of tribal or religious conflict in a long time. 


Analysts attribute it to the exemplary leadership deeply entrenched by the governor which has formed the bedrock of love and unity. 

As a highly cosmopolitan city, people from various parts of the country and beyond live and do business in Enugu without any incident of conflicts with their host communities. 


The governor is also said to be popular among residents especially with initiatives he has put in place to ensure that businesses thrive. 


He has taken the infrastructure of the state to an enviable level with massive road construction and rehabilitation that connects urban from the rural communities. This has aided farmers to convey their produce from the rural to urban markets. 


He has also been praised for raising the bar higher in the area of youth empowerment and job creation. This has helped in bringing insecurity under control in the state as the conducive environment and thought-out policies of the government has helped young people in the state to discover their talents. 

Recall that the governor was earlier scheduled to receive the prestigious award at International Conference Centre Abuja in November. 


He was unavoidably absent, for which he tendered apologies and requested for a fresh date. 


Notable Nigerians received the prestigious National Peace Award which took place at the International Conference Centre Abuja. 


Among them is governor of Katsina State Governor, His Excellency Rt Hon Aminu Bello Masari who was also appointed as a patron of the organization 

He also bagged the Most Proactive Governor in Nigeria. 


Also at the event, the Emir of Bichi, His Royal Highness Alh Nasiru Ado Bayero who is also a patron of the organisation was awarded as the Most Peaceful Traditional Ruler in Nigeria. 


Similarly, the Executive Governor of Delta state Dr ifeanyi Okowa was honoured as the Best Governor on Youth Empowerment. 


The FCT Minister of state Dr Ramatu Aliyu Tijjani doubles as the Grand matron of peace received the award as the Best Serving Female Minister in Nigeria. 

President of the National Peace Award, Dr. Suleiman Adejoh commended the Governor for demonstrating the spirit of a nationalist and a patriot over the years. 


According to Dr. Adejoh, the award is targeted at spurring unity and peaceful coexistence in the country especially at this moment of growing agitation. 


He expressed the readiness of his organization to be at the forefront in driving national peace at all levels.

Messengers of Peace Foundation is also the organizer of the prestigious National Peace Awards in Nigeria; the prominent Queen of Peace in the country and worldwide; and the African Peace Awards. 


Among those in the delegation include, the Executive Strategist, Queen of Peace, Okokoro Ejiro, Manager, Queen of Peace, Jennifer Ijeoma Ezenwa, Members, Messengers of Peace Foundation, Caroline Ezeh, Charles Duhu, Uche John Abonyi, Martins Chinedu . Senior Secondary Schools in Anambra are set to lock horns as Onyebuchi Chris Ifediora, OCI Foundation has fixed date for the grand finale of the 2021/2022 Anambra 'Arm Our Youths (ArOY) Health Campaign Schools Challenge' AHCSC.


The health quiz competition is for all public Senior Secondary School in the three Senatorial Districts of Anambra.


The grand finale scheduled to take place on February 4, 2022 at Nnamdi Azikiwe University main auditorium Awka, Anambra state coincides with this year's World Cancer Day.

It will feature two finalists each drawn from Aguata, Awka, Nnewi, Otuocha, Ogidi and Onitsha zones.


OCI Foundation International, sponsors of the Cyfed Undergraduate Scholarships, the CBH Scholarships, the IFOMSSA Junior and Senior Awards, the JAMB Awards, LAMS Initiative, the Gynocular Project, the CerviBreast APP, and the Arm our Youths Health Campaign is organising the Anambra secondary school health quiz competition in conjunction with the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC) Anambra State.

The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, NCPC, Rev. Dr. Yakubu Pam has described his late mother Ngo Zimi Pam as “a devoted Christian, a woman that loves God”.


He made this disclosure in Abuja on 27th January, 2022 while playing host to the President of Onyebuchi Chris Ifediora Foundation International, Prof. Onyebuchi Chris Ifediora who paid him a condolence visit to commiserate with him over the loss of his mother on 15th January, 2022.


The NCPC boss thanked God that his mother died at a ripe age of 97. His words, “we appreciate God that she lived up to old age of 97 and this is not a joke”. To this end, he described her death as “a celebration of life”.

He thanked the President and his team for coming to comfort him at a time like this over the demise of his mother.


In the words of the NCPC Chief Executive, “what God has done no one can question him”. He intimated his guest that the family had fixed the burial of his late mother on 19th February, 2022 at Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.


Earlier, the President of OCI Foundation International, Prof. Onyebuchi Ifediora said in his condolence message that he was deeply saddened by the death of his mother.

He assured the NCPC Boss that they are mourning with him in this moment of his bereavement. He further assured “you have a family that is standing by you”.


The President of OCI foundation was accompanied on the condolence visit by the founder of Sweet Home Africa, Rev. Austin Epunam who is also the National Champion OCI foundation.






 

The Founder/President of Onyebuchi Chris Ifediora, OCI Foundation, a leading anti-cancer advocacy group in Nigeria, Associate Prof. Chris Ifediora has bagged the chieftaincy title of Chizitelu 1 of Nigeria (God sent). 


The traditional title will officially be conferred on him by the Ogidi-Igbo Gburugburu, Wakilin Igbo, De Lion King, HRM Amb. Dr. Igwe Ochendo A.O Chukwudi in collaboration with the entire Igbo community in Abuja. 


The official conferment of the traditional title will take place on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at the palace of the Ezeigbo located near White Garment Church, Ado-Karu, Nasarawa State. 


The Royal Father in a release says the honour is in recognition of Associate Prof. Ifediora's contributions in advancement of health and social empowerment. 


"Prof. Chris O. lfediora has contributed immensely in the progress, development and the advancement of humanity, health and social empowerment in Nigeria and Africa at large. We therefore find him worthy according to the provisions of the constitution of the Igbo community to crown him as CHIZITELU 1 OF NIGERIA (Godsent)" the traditional ruler said. 


The event which is under the distinguished chairmanship of Mr. Obinna Okoli A, the Chairman Area 7 Traders Association UTC, Garki Abuja will be hosted by Eze Amb. Dr. Igwe Ochendo A.O Chukwudi, JP, Ogidi-lgbo Gburugburu, Wakilin lgbo, (De Lion King) and the National Political, Ndieze Igbo in Diaspora (Worldwide), the National Secretary Ndieze Igbo in Diaspora, Anambra state chapter. 


The Chief Host will be HRH, Eze Dr. Amb. Sir Nwosu Ibe MON, JR KSJ, Ezeigbo 1 of Abuja.


Associate Prof. Ifediora has lined up series of activities to mark the 2022 World Cancer Day slated to take place on February 3 in a grand style.


First Lady, Aisha Buhari had on Tuesday confirmed her readiness to grace the event while playing host to a delegation of the leadership of OCI Foundation who paid her a courtesy visit in Abuja.


In its pre-event engagements, the organisation also visited the Director General of NTA, Yakubu Mohammed soliciting his collaboration.

The Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Nigeria, HE Dr. Ali Ghanem Al-Hajri has endorsed the Nationwide Campaign Against Drug Abuse in Nigeria which was flagged off few months ago by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. He made the endorsement on the 20th of January 2022 while receiving a joint delegation from the Center for Ethical Rebirth Amongst Nigeria Youth(CERANY) and the National Alliance Against Drug Abuse(NAADA).

According to the statement which was released and signed by Ms. Adaeze Ezissi, the Programme Coordinator of CERANY, the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Nigeria will speak at the forthcoming 2022 National Youth Conference on Drug Abuse. The Conference is organised to commemorate the 2022 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Nigeria.

Amb. Dr. Al-Hajri endorsed the Campaign after receiving a Platinum Medal of Honour from the joint delegation of CERANY and NAADA. According to the statement, the honour by the joint delegation was in appreciation of the efforts made by the State of Qatar in Nigeria. Over the years the State of Qatar has been supportive through her efforts in the UNODC anti-drug, anticrime and anti-terrorism programs in Nigeria.

Although the vibrant and proactive Ambassador had also thanked the joint delegation as he encouraged their voluntary contributions towards complimenting the efforts by the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency. Few months ago, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) flaggedoff the Nationwide Campaign Against Drug Abuse and since then several institutions and individuals have continue to make development efforts to support the campaign which is already making huge impacts.
