Residents of Anambra state have been urged not to renege in their regular maintenance of precautionary measures against the spread of coronavirus following the discharge of the index case in the state.

The Chief of Staff to the state Governor, Mr. Primus Odili made the call during the presentation of a cheque of N500,000 by the Nzuko Umuada Anambra International Initiatives (UAII), as part of its support to the fight against the scourge.
The Governor, Willie Obiano had in his recent broadcast, announced that the second test of the COVID-19 index case in the State has returned negative, directing the Commissioner for Health to discharge him.
Odili said the good news of the negative results of the index case was not a guarantee for the people of the State to flaunt the government’s stay-at-home directives and other preventive measures.
He said, “People must continue to respect the stay-at-home order because you must be alive before looking for what to eat.
“If they decide to take laws into their hands by walking around without protecting themselves, that can be dangerous. Everyone must not be as lucky as our first case. You never can tell.

“For the fact that the first case survived after testing negative doesn’t guarantee that the next person that contract it will survive.

“Our prayers is that no other case comes up in the state and that people must stay at home and keep wearing their face masks and washing their hands until this pandemic disappears.”
Earlier in the presentation, South East Coordinator, Nzuko Umuada Anambra International initiatives (UAII), Lady Phina Onwuachu said the donation was in appreciation of the efforts of the governor and his wife in the fight.
She said the body, a non political group, though just six months old, raised the funds after mobilizing their members across the world through their watsap forum
Acknowledging the effects of the lockdown on the people of the State, particularly women, Onuachu called on them to see the steps as necessary sacrifice to be made for the future of their children.
